Map It Vilas County app available for download via iTunes app store
VILAS COUNTY, Wis. (June 20, 2014) – Visitors to Vilas County now have another new tool to help them explore the county’s vast network of recreational trails.
Vilas County Tourism & Publicity last week launched the Map It Vilas County mobile app, which provides information on more than 50 multi-seasonal land trails, as well as several canoeing and kayaking trails, across Vilas County.
The app, which can be downloaded for free on Apple devices via iTunes, provides users with valuable information about each trail, including activities available on each trail (hiking, biking, etc.), trail length, pass/permit requirements and more.
“There are plenty of trails to explore in Vilas County, whether you’re interested in kayaking a crystal-clear lake, biking through tall pines or just taking in the scenery on a stroll,” said Cindy Burzinski, director of Vilas County Tourism & Publicity. “We hope visitors use our new app as a way to explore their favorite trails or discover new trails that they didn’t know about before.”
The release of the app follows the publication of the Vilas County Silent Sports Map, which has been available since May at chambers of commerce and other locations throughout the county. Visitors can also order the map online.
And, Vilas County is giving visitors another chance to explore the trails with its Trail Pro Sweepstakes, which runs through June 27. The sweepstakes will award one winner with a prize package that includes lodging at Mean Arlene’s in Boulder Junction and a bicycle, canoe/kayak/stand-up paddleboard or winter sports rental from Coontail in Boulder Junction.
“When visitors think about Vilas County and the Northwoods, they usually think about woods, lakes and resorts, so our goal is to generate top-of-mind awareness for the silent-sports trail options we have here,” Burzinski said. “With the app, map and sweepstakes, we’re getting the word out about our great trails, and we’re excited to share these outdoor recreational assets with visitors.”
Visitors can find more information, including an order form for the Silent Sports Map and links to enter the Trail Pro Sweepstakes and download the Map It app, online at trails.vilas.org.
